Our club was organized June 4, 1931 by ladies who were members of the Garden Department of Des Plaines. In 1932 there were 21 members. In the same year we became affiliated with the Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc. Club  We are still involved in Civic projects: designing gardens, planting trees and plants, and maintaining garden areas throughout Des Plaines.  Many tours have been made to arboretums, members’ gardens, gardens in other communities, and various venues of interest to our members.

The Garden Club is now 90 years old, and continues to grow.

When Joy Morton established The Morton Arboretum in 1922, he envisioned a “great outdoor museum” of trees. Today, our living collections inspire visitors to appreciate, learn about, plant, and protect trees. The Arboretum champions the world's trees through plant collections, science and conservation, education, and outreach.

The Morton Arboretum's 1,700 acres hold more than 222,000 live plants representing nearly 4,300 taxa from around the world. Situated on the rolling Valparaiso moraine and bisected by the East Branch of the DuPage River, the Arboretum is planned and planted to nurture and display trees and shrubs.

Our club members helped some of the residents create a “VALENTINE HEART”.

The hearts had cute net fabric on a wire frame which were decorated with flowers and ornaments.

When the hearts were done the residents enjoyed them in their rooms for Valentine’s Day.

It was a great success to share some LOVE!

Great Job Team!
